How to Place and Connect Paper Mechanisms

Place a structure from the component library, confirm its mounting faces and connections, then build a scene one mechanism at a time while checking motion.

  1. Choose a component

Open the component library at the top of the workbench. Choose a basic mechanism and check whether it mounts to a page, a support or another paper face. Visual overlap alone does not connect parts.

  2. Check placement and mounting faces

While placing, check the spine direction and inspect the connection after confirming. For paper assembly, open Assembly and fixtures in Pattern studio and use its return button to get back to the project.

  3. Add and check incrementally

Close and reopen after each addition before adding another layer. If the motion looks wrong, inspect mounting faces and connections before changing positions and dimensions.

A LITTLE HELP

Questions you may have

Are two mechanisms connected when they overlap on screen?

No. Check the actual mounting paper faces and connection. Choose the page, support or other paper face and inspect the attachment. If motion looks wrong, verify the mounting rather than only moving parts until they appear to touch.

Should I place every mechanism at once in a combined scene?

Start with one structure. Close and reopen after each addition before adding another layer, so any new problem can be traced to the component and connection just added.
