How to Print, Cut and Assemble Pop-Up Patterns
Check print layout and actual scale, identify cuts, fold directions and glue areas, then pre-fold, test placement, glue and inspect the whole motion.
Check the print layout
Choose Print in the workbench. Check the paper size and part layout for overflow. Make a simple structural sample before a detailed printed version.
Print at actual size
Export the sheets and print at 100% or actual size with Fit to page disabled. Measure a known dimension to confirm that the printer has not rescaled the pattern.
Pre-crease before assembly
Identify cuts, mountain folds, valley folds and glue areas. Cut and pre-crease before applying a small amount of glue. Check alignment before it dries, then close and reopen slowly.
Questions you may have
Should I use Fit to page when printing pop-up patterns?
Use the specified paper, print at 100% or actual size and disable Fit to page. Measure a known dimension or calibration line first. Correct scaling before cutting and assembling.
In what order should I cut, crease and glue a pop-up pattern?
Identify line styles and the viewing face, then score, cut and pre-fold as the pattern specifies. Test the placement without glue. Once aligned, apply a little adhesive, follow its setting instructions and close and reopen slowly.
Do free lesson patterns mean personalized projects export for free?
Lesson downloads and project exports are separate. Basic mechanisms and designated templates export for free; Halloween cards use card export access and projects with imported artwork require a Creator Pass. Check the export interface and Pricing before exporting.
